For five years Dr Keightley was on the faculty of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Allergy and Immunology.

He then enjoyed a year in the
University of Hawaii program in Okinawa, Japan before entering private practice in Arizona in 1981.

For the past 25 years he has been in practice with
Paradise Valley Allergy Associates at Tatum & Shea. In February 2012 the office moved to Desert Ridge.

Dr Richard Keightley was born in Australia, he grew up in Wellington, New Zealand. He graduated from the University of Otago Medical School in 1968, worked as a House Surgeon in the Dunedin Public Hospitals and in the Hematology Department of Christchurch Public Hospital before coming to the United States for a Residency in Pediatrics at New York University Bellvue.
Dr Keightley then moved to Alabama for a fellowship in
Clinical and Laboratory Immunology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
On March 19th 2012 Dr Keightley was interviewed by Kimberly Cheng for Channel 15 TV.
On March 21 he was interviewed by Christine Harrington for Channel 3 TV.
Dr Keightley's publications listed on PubMed include articles in Lancet and the Journal of Immunology.
